I am lucky that I have the space at home for your treatment to take place. I have a private, dedicated massage treatment room that I aim to make an oasis of calm. Your visit will begin with a consultation. We will complete a self-assessment form and have a discussion so that I can gain an understanding of your needs. This will be followed by a postural assessment and if required, range of motion testing. We will then discuss the best course of treatment for you.
Please wear comfortable clothing and underwear. Sportswear may be preferred but is not essential.
When it is your first appointment or you have a new issue to discuss, please allow an additional 30 minutes on top of the booked appointment for the physical assessment to take place.
Sports massage may cause some discomfort as the knots and muscles are encouraged to lengthen and relax. You will be encouraged to communicate how you are feeling during the treatment to ensure that you gain maximum benefit from the session. Alternatively, you can request a more relaxing holistic massage to treat yourself. This offers many similar benefits to a sports massage.
Sports massage can be targeted depending on your specific needs. Whether you have general muscle tighness , limitations in your flexibility or an injury, sports massage may help to bring blood flow to the area and increase muscle length and flexibility. Injuries may be refered to a suitable medical professional where they are deemed to be out of the scope of a massage therapist.
During a massage, the parasympathetic (or rest and digest) nervous system is activated. This can lower your heart rate, reduce your blood pressure and improve the quality of your sleep.
The goal of massage is to melt away muscle tension and increase the blood flow to your heart and muscles. You may notice an increase in flexibility after a massage.
Massage oils are used to sooth, warm, and massage your muscles. This allows your body to relax and release tension and stress.
